CLINTON - Barbara Patterson was appointed to the Clinton city council in a unanimous decision recently.
The council had a special session where members listened to 15 candidates present themselves. The council selected Barbara Pattersonfor the appointment.
Patterson was appointed to fill the seal left vacant when council member Cheri Reed died.
Patterson's term runs through December 2015. That seat along with two other council seats will be in next year's election, said Dennis Cluff, Clinton city manager.
Initially there was a tie vote between Patterson and another candidate. Mayor Mitch Adams broke the tie. But when the motion was made for her appointment itself, she was voted in unanimously.
"There was a 2-2 vote, and I have served with Barbara before, about 4 years ago. She had done an excellent job, so when it came down to it, I voted for her, because I have every confidence in her, that she could do a good job. She is very energetic, she gets the job done, she is passionate, but reasonable. She is a genuine person. What she says is what she means. She is also very straightforward," Adams said.
"I had been on the council before, and served for four years. I ran in the last two elections and lost by less than 20 votes," said Patterson.
